A triphasic birth control pill delivers a constant level of estrogen and three different levels of progestin throughout your cycle. Phasing the progestin over the course of your cycle helps ensure that you receive the minimal amount of hormone needed to prevent you from getting pregnant.

How to take Ortho TriCyclen Lo

ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO is a 28-day birth control regimen. There are 21 "active" pills (seven white pills, seven light blue pills, and seven dark blue pills) with hormones to take for three weeks. This is followed by seven green pills to take for one week.

Ortho TriCyclen Lo precautions

Certain drugs may interact with birth control pills and may make them less effective in preventing pregnancy or cause an increase in breakthrough bleeding.

What to tell your doctor

Some women should not use the Pill, including women who have blood clots, certain cancers, a history of heart attack or stroke, as well as those who are or may be pregnant.

Ortho TriCyclen Lo side effects

Side effects such as breast tenderness and swelling are less common among women who use newer birth control pills, which typically contain lower doses of hormones.
